Time for a little Housekeeping

I don't do this often but...

It is time for a bit of Housekeeping and the schedule for the week of Christmas, this will probably be a short post but it will be straight to the point.

I will start with the Email Subscription, if you wish to stay up to date with my blog and don't get to visit very often please sign up to the Email Subscription and you will the newest post in your inbox every week.

Now for the Social Media Pages, Type One Diabetes & Life does have a Facebook Page and now an Instagram account. I have mentioned this plenty of times in previous posts, If I am unable to do a post I will put something up on the Facebook Page and maybe Instagram. I really encourage you to check these pages because if anything happens it will be on those accounts.

Schedule for Christmas Week, Because I do posts on a Sunday and Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year I need to bring the posts forward. I will be doing a post on Friday the 23rd December, so there will be posts on the Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of Christmas Week. I will be taking a break from the blog on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and posts should resume back to normal the following week.

There is something I do want to tell you and I am considering a move to Wordpress and I will hopefully be doing this before Christmas. I have enjoyed doing this blog a lot but I feel going to Wordpress I would have a little more freedom. Blogger is amazing, I just feel it is time to move on.

I think that is all the Housekeeping taken care of, I would really appreciate it if you could go to the Facebook Page and give it a like, page name is Type One Diabetes & Life.

I hope everyone has a great week and I will put an update on the Facebook Page when I move the blog.

Until next time

How to Survive the Work Christmas Party

It's That Time of Year Again

I imagine that the Christmas Party season is in full swing right now and so I thought I would share some useful tips for surviving the work Christmas Party.

For the last few years my work Christmas Party has been a buffet dinner (all you can eat) and I took great pleasure in it but it is important to watch what you eat and try to count the carbs in an outside environment. This year the Christmas Party is a sit down meal, two different entrees and mains and it is an alternate drop menu so you basically eat what's in front of you.

All you can eat or a sit down meal it can be hard to count the carbohydrates, you don't have the measuring cups to guide you. You simply guess the amount of carbohydrates and hope for the best.

So here are some tips to guide you and hopefully survive the work Christmas Party;

  1. Ask your employer what the menu will be for the Party, at least then you can plan a head.
  2. Arrange a lift to and from the Party if you can, it will save you driving especially if you have a drink or two.
  3. When it comes to giving insulin for your meal just do the best that you can and if a few hours after the meal your bgl's are under 10mmol then good for you.
  4. If you do drink alcohol make sure you have it with food.
  5. Stay hydrated especially now it is Summer time.
  6. I will say keep an eye on your Blood Glucose Levels and have fun.
Those are my six tips for surviving the work Christmas Party, I hope these tips will be useful to someone out there during the Party season.

I hope everyone is having a great week so far and I will have a new post up on Sunday,

Until next time

Upcoming Posts for this Week #5

I have ideas for this week

I can not believe how quick this year has gone and it gets worse as you get older, I am already thinking about what posts to do for Christmas week.

Lets focus on the posts for this week, For Thursday the post will be on How to Survive the Work Christmas Party, I find every year my blood glucose levels go through the roof after the Christmas Party so I need a game plan for this year.

The Post for Sunday will be Housekeeping, I will be doing a post on the schedule for posts during Christmas week. I am not concerned about New Years Eve, the Sunday post for NYE will go up as normal.

Keep an eye out for these posts, I hope everyone is having a great week so far.

Until next time

The Book I am Currently Reading & Sensor News

Hello

Today is a two for one post, I thought it is silly to do a short post so I am incorporating some good news. I don't plan on making this a habit I just thought it would best to incorporate two topics into the one post instead of just doing a really short post.

So I will start with the book I am currently reading and it is The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer. This book is funny and entertaining, I am only two chapters in I admit and I hope to try and finish this book soon. In this book Amy shares her stories about her childhood, adulthood, career and just about everything in between.

If you are a fan of Amy Schumer I recommend you look into her book, I am sorry this post is short tonight I am useless when it comes to reading a book so I am setting myself a goal to finish this book by January.

Now for my Sensor news, I am so happy to be starting on the Dexcom G5 system very soon, Dexcom announced a offer on Monday 23rd November that for the Transmitter and a box of four Sensors for $810. I do intend on purchasing the receiver but it is nice to know that I don't need it right away.

My hypo awareness is not great anymore so the Dexcom G5 will be a good fit for me I am hoping.

This is not a great post tonight and it is short but I had to get something up tonight, my posts will be better through the week I promise.

Until next time

My Health Goals

I Need to Make Some Changes

Lately I have been noticing that my clothes are feeling tight, my tops fit me fine but my shorts, skirts and pants are feeling tight on me. I have been so sick this year it made it impossible for me to exercise.

Now that I am at the end of all my sickness, I have started to exercise again but I will admit it has been difficult to go for a walk of late because of the extremely hot days we have been having. Saying all of this I feel the need to set my self some health goals to help me be healthier and stay on track with my eating habits and exercise routine.

Health Goals
  1. Lose Weight, I have been told that I should lose two-three Kilograms and I intend to lose the weight it will benefit my health in the long run.
  2. Exercise Everyday, it is harder in hot weather to go for my walk however there is no reason why I can't go for a walk in the evening when it is cooler.
  3. Avoid Low Blood Glucose Levels, Low levels can happen anytime anywhere and you eat just about everything in sight. If I can avoid low levels I won't consume so much junk food and sugar.
  4. Focus on My Health, I need to remain focused when it comes to my health and I feel I am doing well so far.
In regards to Health Goal number four I am already focused on being healthier and I feel in control with my Diabetes. My Hba1c was done yesterday at my Specialist appointment and it is down to 7.1% I am so happy with this result, last year my result was 8.5% so I am on the right track.

It ultimately feels good to set these goals and know that when I complete these goals I will feel better within myself. I feel at my age and the problems I have it is highly important to look after myself more than what I do. I am ecstatic that I will be starting on the Dexcom G5 very soon and I know this will help me control my Diabetes a lot better and my Hba1c should come down even more.

I will document my progress on the blog and possibly on the Facebook Page and the Instagram account, It would be silly to set these goals and not document the process so I will do a blog post in a couple of weeks documenting my progress.

I hope you enjoy this post and don't forget about the Facebook Page Type One Diabetes & Life and Instagram t1djenna11.

Have a great weekend everyone,

Until next time
